Lately I’ve been thinking of ways to get the community involved in keeping our island clean, so I figured I would start with sharing my journey.
What first sparked my concern was the amount of trash that I’ve seen on hikes and on the beach lately. During my free time I love spending days at the beach. If there’s waves I’ll surf, if there’s no waves I’ll dive, and if the water sucks then I’ll take out my trash bag and clean up the beach. There’s this huge ” adventurer” movement going on. People exploring all these places beautiful places that they have seen on Instagram. Unfortunately, what most of us don’t see if the littering epidemic that follows.
BUT, how great would it be if we could show a new perspective to these same people and get them involved with cleaning up our earth? It first starts with home. Recycling, using less waste, cleaning up our streets, touching our beaches, the places we enjoy, and then going from there. So next time you go on a hike or to the beach try and bring a trash bag. See what fills it up! You may be surprised at how good it feels to clean up nature! It’s the simple things in life that make it so enjoyable. Let’s continue to take care of the places we enjoy the most.
Shell divers -Try diving for leads and rubbish
Beach goer’s– Bring a trash bag and clean up ( you can get a tan at the same time .. it’s a win win )
Hikers– Bring gloves and a bag for rubbish you find on your trail
Drinker’s– Remember your bottle caps… I find soooo many in the sand
Enjoy the journey.
